NELA STORIES - interviews with longtime HP residents & cultural creators

Oxy Arts Project / Exhibit from earlier this year has a terrific resource---

"NELA Stories engages with community members who have lived and shaped the local cultural landscape of Northeast Los Angeles (NELA) between the 1950s or earlier through the 2000s.

The interviews were conducted in teams of two by undergraduate students during the Spring semester of 2019. This interactive digital exhibit of the interviews was produced by Oxy’s Center for Digital Liberal Arts, with complete transcripts, photographs, and other materials, is viewable on smart phone, tablet or computer. "

You can listen to the recording or read a transcript for the individual interviews.

Recordings were then used as the basis of an exhibition entitled “Compass Rose” by artist Debra Scacco.

Cornerstone Board Member April Ibarra is one of the interviewees! 💖
